Introduction

This is my blog based on my second year A-level coursework called Component 1. As it is a personal investigation I will be researching artists that interest me, visiting places and galleries, all to gain a wider understanding about myself. In this I will add elements of my experiences to make this as personal as possible. Exploring vivid colours is something I am looking forward to doing as I love the vibrance of them. I am going to do this by studying Helen Frakenthaler, Chila Burman and Mark Tobey. I am going to explore the juxtaposition between two concepts in my work, that of, Kafkaesque/depression vs. escapism/façade. I am going to do this by contrasting elements such as colour, line, tone, form and shape.

From looking at Mark Tobey's work, I feel a busy mood that comes through his compositions and so I want to explore Kafkaesque/depression through different mark-making. I can do this by using different mediums to portray a dark, depressed mood, for example, paint and charcoal.
